If you’re a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) hopeful, don’t go to Arizona State University! Lisa Love, the Vice President of University Athletics and the woman responsible for axing the ASU cheerleading squad over some not-so-racy photos, announced yesterday that the university is shutting down the wrestling program.
The reason? Economic troubles.
“The decision to discontinue sport programs is a last resort, yet necessary,” said Lisa Love. Necessarily evil, I say!
The ASU wrestling program has produced several MMA stars in the past. Among them are Cain Velasquez, C.B. Dollaway, Ryan Bader and Aaron Simpson, whose professional records combined equate to an impressive 16 wins and zero losses. Now. MMA hopefuls must go elsewhere for their undergraduate training.
To be fair, the wrestling program isn’t the one being axed. Men’s swimming and men’s tennis are also on the chopping block. But, let’s face it. No one really cares about those. They haven’t produced any undefeated superstars. Right?
Right.
