Hello loyal readers, I'm writing to personally inform you that the time has come for early retirement (again)! It's true, I've been thinking about calling it quits for some time. We'll now, with Fall Quarter almost over and the new year just around the frost covered corner, finally, I get to say goodbye. Online trash-talking might be fun, but at times it felt a little 2008... especially when you start becoming a part of the subject.

But of course, I wasn't going to let you just linger in cyberfusion... especially during Reading Week, Finals Week and Winter Break, when god knows you need some distractions. So after my close encounter with Julia Allison's blog last week, I discovered that there are several members of the NU "media elite" that also have Tumblr accounts (like Gossip Gay!) and they update it quite frequently to let their friends in on their journo-exploits. Well, we're all your friends now! Here's a quick glance at some of the best ones. And you should know me by now... by "best" I mean "painfully horrific."

Microwave Cake: Because she explains it best by stating "...the reasons I didn’t want to become a writer in high school? Because it is so… self-indulugent— which is true for every media scene, even the silly-frivilous North by Northwestern and Daily rivalry; each post I make on tumblr; and most of all the continual cacaphony of everyone talk talk talking and rehashing every bit of media there is: all the newsroom jokes about wishing to be OTR’d and RR’d and even Peter K. Jackson’d. Worst of all, all of this is recognized by everyone involved..." And because she misspelled "self-indulgent" and "frivolous."

Musings of Peej: Although scolded for creating GossipDesk by the Daily dicks, nothing beats this guy's adoration for Alex Balk. Thus, the NU Tumblr-mania ensues. It's not updated anymore, but Musings is a great archive of self-importance and online myth-making. And because, according to him, I've hit my stride, I guess it's good than I'm calling it quits.

Consolation Prizes: Yeah, the whole "Girl goes to Paris" might seem a little overdone, but what makes this Tumblr great is that she totally and unassumingly plays to that caricature. She eats croissants, fawns over fashion and spots cute boys on the Metro... ooh la la. Tres adorable <3 <3 <3

Living the Dream: For some reason... this kid hands out Brian awards (you got it, his name is Brian) every day to people that have... made his day? I'm not sure. The award consists of being mentioned on his popular Tumblr and that's it. As Microwave Cakes would say: How "self-indulugent" of you!

We're All Mad Here: Wake up, Northwestern! Even NSG has a Tumblr! You can find out how busy his schedule is, how he thinks Lupe Fiasco is just alright, and how legalizing Marijuana might be just what we need. Mostly, he's just reblogging from his Academic VP, though. Figures.
