Outta the way, Tom Anderson and Mark Zuckerburg, the four guys of The Next Big Sound are about to blow you out of the water. After a successful launch, the creators of The Next Big Sound are sure to be the next big thing.
TNBS is a musical social network – the site is a haven for all aspiring music producers and musicians. Binding together underground artists (that are yet to be signed by record labels) and the mass appeal of “friending” bands, TNBS grants the user the power to add bands to their record labels. Each user is known as a mogul and has the ability to add up to 10 bands to their faux label. The creators explained that 10 is maximum number allowed because "the decision of adding or dropping bands carries a lot more weight [if only 10 slots are to be filled]."
Hailing from all over the country - Jason Sosnovsky, Alex White, Samir Rayani and David Hoffman took a class that would dramatically change the course of their lives. The four TNBS moguls started their project in a lowly entrepreneurship class and turned a school project into a working business.
After meeting with a group of investors, the TNBS guys scored a deal with the Illinois Ventures Program and the chance to work in Champaign, IL for the summer to get their business off the ground. Now three Northwestern seniors and a graduate, the boys are spending more time together than ever before, working together during the day and going home to their four bedroom apartment at night.
Having met for the first time in January, the guys of TNBS joke about spending every waking moment of the day together. The TNBS boys have spent six months working hard and building up their website, so much so that White decided to take Spring quarter off to be able to tend to the website properly. He laughs now thinking about how his partners were drowning in homework and term papers while he ran the business.
Die-hard music aficionados, the guys of TNBS are very much in tune with the underground music scene; founder Alex White hosted a radio show and is now a musician himself. TNBS had a lot of contacts in the music world and hit the streets checking out local bands and offering them to join their music blog-o-sphere efforts. The guys have also taken to the battlegrounds of music, Myspace, to recruit new and raw unsigned bands.
To check out what these four Northwestern guys are doing, check out their website and become a music mogul yourself!
