Ever since RR graduated and went back to Los Angeles and left Rumor Royalty open to hackers, several new gossip blogs have sprung up trying to claim the throne he vacated.
This summer, Private Production Meeting caused quite a stir in the theatre community, but it quickly fizzled and hasn't been updated since school started. The blog focused more on the theatre establishment (how to get cast, blah blah blah) and not necessarily on the juicy gossip that would include Ridge & Davis sex romps, drama queen tantrums and manic depressive personalities.
And as soon as classes started another gossip blog came in and took the Gossip Girl motif to a whole other level and drove it right into gaytown.
Gossip Gay is all about closet cases, sex tapes and Manhunting escapades... typical of things you'd find at an "incestuous" college gay community. Just one problem. As one friend puts it, "gays don't have sex at Northwestern!" But brownie points for using a Tumblr, who knew gays were so media-savvy?
And a few words of advice, Gossip Gay:
The GG thing is kind of over. Reinvent your blog and instead of posting random tips from all over the place, focus on the daily drama of a select number of NU's socialgays. People love reading gossip narratives. Nice job of exposing Craigslist ads and Manhunt profiles, but update more often, even if you don't have any juicy gossip... become sort of a gaydar and post gaycentric news or videos. Make your site a destination, not just a guilty pleasure. Just take a quick look at Towleroad.
And on a personal note. I know who you are. So play nice.
