Northwestern Jumps Two Spots in US News Rankings, Only 12 More to Go

Willie seems pretty happy about it.

Wildcats rejoice! Northwestern has climbed a whole two spots in the US News and World Report all-important college rankings list. That puts us at number twelve, tied with Washington University in St. Louis which I’m pretty sure no one has heard of ever.

Still beating us out in the Midwest is the University of Chicago at No. 8 (damn Chicago, with all their…wind, and good shopping). However, we do have the honor of being the highest by far in the Big 10, Michigan is second behind us at lowly No. 26. And their football team sucks now. So there.

School officials say they’re “gratified” with the ranking, although that’s quite a contrast from President Bienen saying in 2006, “I think it would be better if we never had them…They don't tell you much about the school, but people pay attention, so we want a good showing."

Whatever, that’s bullshit. We’re number 12! We’re number 12! Keep it up NU.

The University of Cbicago is beating Northwestern because Chicago has great shopping. UC has produced 81 Nobels, initiated the nuclear age (Fermi), educated the founder of molecular biology Mr. DNA (Watson), revolutionized economics (an entire school of thought), and started sociology (Park). And that's just the beginning. I'm surprised it's only 8th since no school has been more intellectually influential; but that's US News for you. Posted 09/02/2008 10:53 PMReply

Who shops in Hyde Park/St. Louis for anything other than a hooker or cheap booze? Great shopping, huh? Posted 09/16/2008 11:27 AMReply
