Notre Dame Lameness Peaks when Newspaper Evaluates Merit of HSM3 - Least Worthy Topic for Evaluation

In yesterday's issue of Notre Dame's student newspaper, the Observer, the single largest article was a huge 2-page spread evaluating the merit of the new Disney movie, High School Musical 3.  Three editors contributed detailed reviews of the movie, followed by a in-depth description of the internal conflicts every character faces. Coincidentally, nearly an identical article appeared in my little brothers middle school newspaper.

Upon seeing this article, I felt the last shred of respectability for the Observer oozing out of the student body. Honestly, some of us are a few months away from customizing our own 401k packages and our newspaper features 2 pages on newest Disney movie, while cramming the economic crisis and updates on the most important presidential election in the free world into 3/4 of page at the end of the paper. Could the observer try to be more out of touch with college students?

Granted, one of the contributing writers completely bashed the movie, but honestly, the fact that the movie is even recognized as an issue worthy of debate should speak volumes about our school.  Doesn't legitimizing the merit of HSM3 kinda make you cringe when it shows up in our school newspaper? With that said, I'm just now aware how that makes the guy who talks about people talking about HSM3 measure up. Touche.
