Obama Disses the Ivy League

Unhappy with his current interns, the presidential hopeful turns his back on the schools that made him who he is today. On the bright side, someone finally pays attention to the Midwest.

Ivy Leaguers should just go back to their internships at Goldman, JP Morgan and Bear Sterns (wait, scratch that one). Apparently, Barack Obama is so over his Ivy League volunteers.

Political blog Open Left is reporting from an unnamed source in the Obama camp that the potential prez is sick of the overly ambitious brainiacs who are simply out to get ahead. The source goes on to say that the volunteers have caused problems by being insensitive to community issues and creating a sense of elitism.

Hmm… didn’t Obama go to Harvard and Columbia? But of course, he keeps it real by living on the South Side of Chicago, so it’s totally different.

Nevertheless, word has it that this dissatisfaction means Obama will do much of his hiring from Midwestern colleges. Finally, Ivy League-rejects at Northwestern can put their inferiority complex behind them and rejoice!

ooh, that's harsh. Not everyone at Northwestern is an ivy league reject you know. Quit over generalizing.

wtf that is such bs. i personally know dozens of students that turned down Duke, UPenn, Columbia, Cornell, and other "prestigious" schools because they believed Northwestern was worth the investment.

NU is NOT full of ivy league rejects. You've got that all wrong.

the only ivies an NU student will reject is Cornell or Brown, and understandably so.

besides that, only HPME, MMSS, and maybe Medill kids would reject ivies for NU. our school is indeed the school for ivy league rejects, just look at the huge influx of old money east coasters who screwed around at their time at Exeter and barely made the top 50% of their class, thus forced to settle for this humble midwestern institution.

I turned down an Ivy League acceptance offer because I got a nice scholarship from NU. NU is in the Big Ten, one of the more competitive leagues compared to the Ivy League in sports. And no, I do not fit in the "dumb jock" category very well, as I scored 780/690/720 on my V/M/W sections for the SAT. Go Wilcats!
