Student Uses Chem Degree to Make Meth

Now his love of chemistry makes sense. Jason West, who was about to earn a Ph.D in chemistry from UC Merced, was recently arrested for allegedly stealing chemicals and equipment from a school lab.

Was he just over enthusiastic and wanting to continue his studies at home? Did he use these stolen goods to uncover a new element or breakthrough medical discovery? Nope. The $10,000 worth of goods was used to cook meth.

Going through all the hard work of getting a Ph.D hardly seems worth it just to learn to make some real good, feel-good drugs, if you ask me.
