Day one: intense.

Sorry for the late update guys, there are no outlets here, so I've been trying to save battery power a) to find people and b) in case of emergencies. I fortunately ran into Jackson Lanzing, a fellow Trojan, who promised I could post some of his beautiful photography with my own.

Anyway, this place is phenomenal. There's not only music here but some beautiful art. There's "Steam Punk Treehouse", which is this gorgeous all metal tree house. There's also the Do Lab, a cloth and bamboo flower land with misters and different music/circus acts. And the mind blowing "Jig Rig" a vertical and warped 18 wheeler truck.

As for music, I'm blown away. The first band I saw was Porter, a Mexican indie-pop-rock band. The begininng of the set was great- they sounded like a mini-Polyphonic Spree but in Spanish. As they went on though, they got a little repetitive.

Battles, however, fracking blew my mind. John Stanier, the lead drummer of the German band Helmet, leads this amazing Math Rock trio (think phenomenally done techno- digitalized and bumping- but with interesting and complex time signatures). The group utilizes not just a drum kit, but two guitars that are hooked up to and play in conjunction with pianos. They also record themselves singing on stage, then loop it immediately. It was certainly one aspect of technology I did NOT mind. PLEASE guys, check them out.

After a spiritual opening with Dan Deacon, who insists in bringing his DJing to the center of the crowd, we saw Architecture in Helsinki, who were a high energy Indie rock extravaganza.

Anyway, after the fun of Vampire Weekend, we only saw one song by The National (much better on their CD than live) before running off to The Raconteurs, seen above, who were so great live. The screen quality here is ridiculous. And their Bluesy Rock was a beautiful way to start the evening.

We ended the night by rocking to Data Rock (also PLEASE check them out), who were fun and high energy (they also came into the audience at the end of their set to give hugs while singing "Time of My Life" before sleeping under the stars.

More tonight...
