"Delgo" is Officially the Worst Box Office Failure of All Time, No I Haven't Heard of It Either

Have you heard of Delgo? Well, that’s probably why the animated film is now officially the worst box office flop of ALL TIME. It would be one thing if this travesty was a straight to DVD release, but it was released in 2,100 theaters this weekend. It made $500,000 which roughly comes out to two people per theater. Seriously.

Even better, the film boasts a voicing cast you’ve actually heard of: Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Val Kilmer, Malcom McDowell, Kelly Ripa and Anne Bancroft. The movie has been a work in progress since 2001, and when Hollywood wouldn’t distribute it, its creator Marc Adler decided to just make it independently. And pay $40M to do so.

Here’s where I’m supposed to feel bad that all this work went into this and it failed horrendously, but you know what? I don’t. I think this guy saw that every animated movie ever with a celebrity voice cast goes on to make at least $100M and he thought he’d skimp on the trimmings (making a good movie for one) and pocket it all himself.

Also, who the hell expects to make money from the wide release of a movie that no one has ever heard of? Not one TV ad, not one internet banner, nothing. I’m a damn entertainment blogger and this is literally the first time I have ever heard of this movie.

Idiot.

The trailer is below. It looks deliciously awful. It's like Ferngully on crack.
