Madhatter's Declines State Street Locale: "Didn't Feel Welcome"
Madhatter's gone for good? Curiouser and curiouser, indeed.

Madhatter's, a once-thriving University Square bar, will no longer be taking over old Fuddruckers on State Street, citing the current saturation of bars in the area. In other words, the erstwhile mandude hangout has elected not to bring sand to the beach and will be taking its business elsewhere.

It's kind of sad, and for better reason than that it's always fun seeing an Alice in Wonderland-themed bar succeed. The 20-year-old Madhatter's was far and away the most successful establishment in the now-defunct University Square.

Yes, the bar was easily the classiest tavern in Little Broville, the stretch of University Ave. that plays host to Brothers, The Vintage, Wando's and a few other frat-tastic hangouts. They lines out the door every week were comparable only to the halftime bathroom lines at Camp Randall.

So up-end a $2 pitcher tonight, if you can find one. Madhatter's. Requiescat In Pacem.
