Neil Diamond fans who attended a recent concert at Ohio State University will be getting refunds. The singer asked for the audience’s forgiveness for his raspy voice during the show.
The problem was a result of laryngitis and has caused him to cancel two upcoming concerts.
For now, lovers of “Sweet Caroline” will just have to get their fix somewhere else… like a Boston College football game, or a Red Sox game, or a Met game, or basically any other sporting event. anywhere. ever.
Reuters reports on Diamond’s regret:
Diamond, 67, was diagnosed with acute laryngitis after the August 25 show in Columbus, Ohio, and the "Sweet Caroline" singer released a statement on his website Tuesday apologizing to fans through the lyrics of his past hit, "Play Me."
"Dear Fans in Columbus, I haven't let you down before and I won't let you down now," Diamond said. "Until you hear from me again remember, You are the sun, I am the moon. You are the words. I am the tune. Forgive me. I love you."
Creepy or cute?
Either way, you have to give Diamond props for owning up to his suckiness and giving fans their hard earned money back.
Avril Lavigne fans are still waiting.

Quite the headline - for someone who was the single most active touring solo artist for both the 1990's and the 2000's...
Quite the headline - for someone that not only sang for the entire duration of the show with laryngitis at the age of 67 (while never having made a single excuse throughout the show to let people know of his condition so that they would cut him some slack)...and on top of that, offered everyone a refund, not because anyone asked for one, but instead because he felt it was the right thing to do...
Quite the headline indeed! Posted 08/29/2008 01:53 AMReply
