Official OTR Rules: Baseball

Official OTR Rules: Baseball

It is about time we, as an OSU community, decide on the final rules for drinking games. Anyone else annoyed with going to a house party, sitting down to play a game, and spending fifteen minutes figuring out the rules to go by? I shall be your savior. This week I chronicle "Baseball", a great take on the American pastime. If you'd like to add rules or suggestions, feel free to comment.

Name: Baseball

Alternate Names: Baseball Pong, RBI Baseball

Required Equipment: 22 cups (and 2 water cups), ping pong balls, dry erase board

Number of People: As many as you want. (I suggest 4-10).

Setup: Much like beer pong. Set the cups in the opposite way of beer pong to form a triangle pointing towards you. Then set up 2 cups on the side right next to each other at the end of the table, but in the center. Draw a baseball diamond on the dry erase board. Pour.

Play:

  • One team will begin with the ball. Play is like baseball where you have 9 innings and 3 outs per inning per team.
  • Team members will take turn taking shots going through their lineup. You must keep the same order throughout the game.
  • The cups score as follows:
    • First row (4) - Single
    • Second row (3) - Double
    • Third row (2) - Triple
    • Last row (1) - Home Run
  • When a cup is made, the other team must drink the beer and refill. Mark the batter one the correct base according to their hit. If any runners were on base, they advance the value of the hit (Single 1, Double 2, etc.). If a player has scored, give the team a run on the scoreboard.
  • If a player is on base, he/she may steal a base by running to their center cup and doing a flip-cup off with the opposing team. If the runner wins, he advances to the next base. If the defender wins, the runner is out.
Game Over When: 9 innings or 10-run rule.

Special Rule: When trying to steal home, the runner must do 2 cups before the defender can do 1.

I prefer the binge style approach. If you make a single, they drink one cup. Drink 2 for a double, 3 for a triple, and four for the homerun. Posted 02/23/2008 8:41 PMReply
