Ripe Produce: Must Read Ohio State Stories

Ripe Produce: Must Read Ohio State Stories

We know you’re all out of school, but we’re going to attempt to keep you abreast on Michigan news this summer with a new feature. Similar to Fresh Cream, Ripe Produce will feature local OSU news that’s “ripe for the reading.” Here are five summer stories you must read.

* Award-winning U.S. gymnasts Paul and Morgan Hamm have begun their intensive training for the Beijing Olympics at Ohio State University.

* Jonathan Newsome, star linebacker from Ohio High School’s Cleveland Glenville Academic Campus, has finally committed to becoming a Buckeye in the fall.

* Governor Ted Strickland has allotted $106 million of the state’s budget to OSU for construction, equipment and renovations, which is about $34 million more than the amount being given to fund the state prison system. I guess educating students is more important than keeping them safe from criminals.

* Ohio State will be helping to recruit 144 children that have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), in an effort to aid the University of Pittsburgh’s on-going study of the disease.

* OSU researchers are working to improve the quality of water in the world by using sound waves and bioengineered algae to purify it. Doesn’t sound very healthy to me…
