College football fans, rejoice!
Time Warner Cable, one of the largest cable television providers in the known universe, has struck a deal with the Big Ten Network to carry all their HD-programming and on-demand content.
In other words, it’s going to be all college football, all the time this fall!
The landmark deal, which took a year to pen, arrives just in time for the Ohio State University season opener this Saturday, August 30th. Now, OSU alumni from around the country can watch their alma mater completely destroy Youngstown State from the comforts of their home.
The Dayton Business Journal reports:
The release said the pending agreement will ensure that Time Warner customers in Big Ten states will be able to watch the network’s football games Aug. 30, including Ohio State versus Youngstown State. The Big Ten Network has exclusive broadcast rights to that game and expects to televise at least two other Buckeye football games this season.
The agreement was reached five days after Ohio State Athletics Director Gene Smith sent a letter to Buckeye fans, saying it was unlikely a deal would be completed before the football opener. He suggested that OSU fans wanting to watch the games call other cable and satellite TV providers that carry the network, including Wow, Insight, DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T...
... Time Warner has 2.2 million customers in Ohio, including in the Dayton region.
Thanks, Gene. If it wasn’t for you encouraging millions of subscribers to sign up with rival cable providers, Time Warner may have never agreed to the deal.
The world is definitely a much better place now, but it will be an even better once we all get to see Ohio State destroy Michigan in HD.
