OWLs moved in to the dorms today here at Ohio State. With a weekend of nothing to do, here is a list of things to not do.
10. Buy Books
The number one rule of college is to not spend money unwisely. Don't waste your money on books you might not need; wait for syllabus day to figure out what books you truly need.
9. Accessorize to the Extreme
It may seem spacious now, but just realize there will be 1 or 3 more people living there. Less is more.
8. Begin the Awful Trend
"Hi. What's your name? What major are you?" Think of some better opening lines, such as, "Are you going to walk home alone later?"
7. Attend Meetings/Team Building Excersises
In College there are only two things that are mandatory: tuition and beer.
6. Become BFF with all the OWLs
Honestly, most of the people moving in early are probably a little too eager to make friends at OSU. There are thousands of people here in Columbus. Your goal should be to have fun pissing off as many of them as possible in a humorous way.
5. Being on Campus
Why check out classrooms this weekend? You'll have the next nine months to be on campus. Spend it off campus or downtown. Enjoy the weather while seeing areas you'll never have the motivation to visit once classes start.
4. Applying for Jobs
You have the rest of your life to work. College is a vacation from reality with the occassional final or term paper.
3. Wait to get Tickets
Once everyone moves back in, the line at the Schott for tickets will only get longer. Don't wait until Friday or Saturday to pick up your tickets. It could cost you.
2. Plan Everything
College is about the ability to adapt. Don't become a drone or a slave to a schedule. Diversify.
1. Be Yourself
College is also about reinvention. You can be anyone you want; you can be better than yourself. If you speak with enough confidence, no one will question you.
