U of M Rains on the Stem Cell Parade
How come stem cell news is always boring when it should be like: "Mutant stem cell enhanced soldiers massacre research lab."

So I haven't taken Biology since tenth grade, so I'll try to explain this the best I know how. Some scientists thought that in stem cells there was something called the "immortal strand." It sounds badass because it was supposed to do badass stuff like help us figure out how to stop genetic mutations or why cells turn cancerous.

Unfortunately U of M just did some research on mice that shows that the immortal strand does NOT do these things, so really I guess we're back to square one. So when we're not conducing ridiculously obvious studies on our own, we're setting back other people's research. Ah well, I guess it's better than some misled scientist trying to grow me a new kidney and ending up with an eye where my belly button used to be.
