It's no secret that Beanie Wells is not 100%. As Buckeye Nation awaits the word on Beanie's ankle after falling during a 43-0 rout of Youngstown State, maybe it's not a bad thing for Beanie to sit out.
Now before you start screaming that I am an idiot, consider this: OSU plays Ohio University next week at the Shoe. Why do we need Wells for that game? What should be another stepping stone to the pivotal matchup against USC, can serve as another week for the Buckeyes to practice gameplans in live action.
I don't think I need to remind you that after a crucial injury to Ted Ginn Jr. in the National Championship game, OSU looked confused. Nothing could help OSU improve more than playing without their star player. Brandon Saine and Maurice Wells can get more snaps and be there if we need them.
Judging by the injury and the x-rays coming back negative on his foot, the worst case scenario is Wells missing one game. If I were Jim Tressel, I don't let anything out of the bag and go on as if Wells will be out for some time. USC will not know what to prepare for and OSU will have an easier time dismantling the Trojans for what should be the toughest game of the year.
