Columbus Protest

Columbus Protest

In the wake following last week’s presidential election, an issue arose that is quickly becoming a nationwide battle against injustice and inequality.

Over this past week, members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered [GLBT] and their straight allies have been fighting the Proposition 8 amendment that overturns a Supreme Court decision that allowed gay marriage in California.

On SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH at 1:30 PM at the CITY HALL IN COLUMBUS, a group of people will gather on the city steps and join cities in every state of the U.S. to make their voices heard.

Gays and lesbians aren’t the only people that have had to fight for marriage rights. In times of slavery, marriages between slaves were not recognised, and were only binding until distance separated the husband and wife. During World War II, Asians and Latinos could not marry white people. In 1967, sixteen states STILL had laws on the books that prevented blacks and whites from marrying each other.

Unequal is unequal. Discrimination is discrimination. You've got to make a stand.

This Saturday, members of the Ohio Wesleyan University P.R.I.D.E. and the GLBT Resource Center here at OWU plan to travel into Columbus and join people at City Hall to speak out against prejudice and injustice. We welcome anyone who wants to join us and help make a difference.
