Wanna Veg?

A greener campus is coming soon to Ohio Wesleyan University. The theme for this year's Sagan National Colloquium, one of the campus traditions since the early 1980s, is "Cultivating a Green Campus,". Students get to engage world-renowned speakers and implement initiatives to make the 200-acre campus more environmentally friendly this semester.

As part of this initiative, October is also a vegetarian-friendly month on campus! Many enhancements have been added to the Hamilton Williams Campus Center towards that goal!

10 Reasons to Go Vegetarian ONE Day a Week include:

In one year you will....

  1. Save 84,000 gallons of WATER.
  2. Save 245 lbs of GRAIN- Curb world hunger.
  3. Save 7,700 sq feet of RAIN FORREST – Curb deforestation.
  4. Save a few of the over 10 billion ANIMALS slaughtered.
  5. Save 15.5 gallons of GASOLINE.
  6. Reduce over 400 lbs of toxic MANURE produced by food animals.
  7. Reduce your contribution to GLOBAL WARMING.
  8. Save 87 square feet of TOPSOIL from EROSION.
  9. Reduce your impact on our quickly vanishing OCEAN LIFE!
  10. Better your HEALTH – Reduce your risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Earlier this month, a University of Oxford study suggested eating meat and dairy products may increase the risk of prostate cancer. Other studies have shown that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables greatly reduce heart disease and diabetes. As you can see, making this small change in your diet can have a dramatic effect on a variety of social and environmental
issues we face today.

So...wanna veg?
