Just because most of the students are gone for the summer doesn't mean the security forces on campus need to fall asleep on the job. But apparently that's what happened this weekend when an estimated $45,000 worth of laptops were stolen on campus. Wow, that sucks. On a positive note though, there's probably some laptops being sold real cheap somewhere around town.
So, some time between 7:30p.m. Sunday and 10:30a.m. Monday someone walked into the Beam building and walked out with 20 laptops and "other personal electronic items." I honestly don't know anything about the Beam building so I have no idea what these computers were, but if 20 computers are worth $45,000, those are some pretty expensive computers. EDIT: Turns out they were Dells. Really? A Dell's worth $2,000? Not likely.
If you know anything about the theft (like someone trying to sell you a Laptop for $200) you're encouraged to call Penn State University Police at (814) 863-1111 or or Centre County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-99-CRIME. You can even stay anonymous when you call or you can go to the Penn State Silent Witness Website.
Oh, and there's a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Which you can use to buy a new laptop that isn't stolen.

You can say I was scooped by the CDT all you want. I don't think I really get "scooped" since it's not like I'm breaking any stories anyway. Posted 05/28/2008 7:42 PMReply
