Looks like we can all stop dancing around the issue now. According to a story on the CDT's website, Penn State running back Austin Scott "has been charged with rape, sexual assault and two counts of aggravated indecent assault, all felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges of simple assault and indecent assault."
As we told you last week, there were multiple stories floating around that seemed to be connected, but before charges were officially brought, no one was going to connect the dots. If you remember there was a reported rape at Nittany Apartments at 4:15am last Friday, we were also getting word that a PSU football player had been involved in an "incident" around 4:15 that same morning. Then we got word that Austin Scott wouldn't be dressing for last Saturday's game against Illinois, and later it was confirmed that he had cleaned out his locker.
Yesterday's Collegian was reporting that family friend's of Scott had consulted with a State College criminal lawyer, but had not retained his services. In that story, Attorney Joseph Amendola said the family friends reported to him that Scott was off the team because he had broken team policy by visiting a bar fewer than 48 hours before the Iowa game. They claim, according to Amendola, that Scott only went to that bar "to pick up a female friend."
Scott was released today on $50,000 unsecured bail. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.
