Earlier this week I told you that overpriced cereal "restaurant" Cereality had closed its doors and now I have a picture to prove it for all you folks away for the summer (take that Jennifer Thomas). Overall it looks like the whole chain of Cereality stores are in trouble with only four remaining in the entire country. Well, with gas at $4 can you really justify paying a premium for cereal?
On Tuesday I got an e-mail from someone at franchisepick.com, a website that covers various franchises around the country and who have been keeping an eye on Cereality and their closings. Although the State College location didn't do as bad as some of the other locations (one in Illinois closed in three months) the store only lasted a little over a year.
If you go to Cereality's website there is no reference to the State College store, which I guess puts to bed any thought that the store is undergoing renovations or something. The location at UPenn seems to be going strong. Well, if you're paying that much for tuition what's a $4 bowl of cereal I guess.
It's a shame because I'm sure the people who owned the business sunk a bunch of dough into it ($300,000 according to franchisepick), but State College is a tough market to make it in. With the exception of Arts Fest week and maybe 4th of July, it's a ghost town up here during the summer. Which reminds me, if you have the opportunity to come up here for a weekend over the summer and expect to party or something ... don't. You'll just end up having to knock your front door down to get in and spend the weekend wondering why you don't have AC.

BTW, speaking of lazy, what's with your fellow blogger Penny. Given that she posts condensed PSU press releases, she must be a protege of Bill Mahon or a student of Jenifer Thomas. Posted 06/26/2008 7:13 PMReply
