Over the summer, the event "Girl Talk at BU" popped up in the ever-creepy Facebook mini-feed. Hmm, I thought, BU is going to try and charge me an arm and a leg (aka $30) to see Girl Talk perform at Agganis Arena. During my freshman year, both the White Stripes and Bob Dylan came to Agganis Arena. I'd heard from older friends about their schools hosting concerts for them either free of charge or at a very low cost.
When I heard Bob Dylan was coming, I was still a naive freshmen. I had not realized that Boston University is a soul-sucking money making machine that does not settle for bleeding its students dry exclusively through the exorbitant tuition. Rather than allotting tickets for the students, BU was gracious enough to discount the $80 dollar tickets to $70. WHOAAAAAAA.
This is just the beginning. You want to play intramural sports, it's going to cost you $40 to sign up your team.
What, you thought these kind of expenses would be covered in $50k+ tuition? What the **** were you thinking?! Clearly you have not learned anything, and the wasted tuition dollars are being flushed down the toilet--along with the three slices from T. Anthony's that did not mix well with too many Natty Lights.
Am I bitter? Slightly.
So, with that all said, I investigated the event and to my surprise BU was putting on a Girl Talk show and it only cost $5.
The hype built all summer, and although there were only to be 1,500 tickets available, 2,038 people signed up as "attending" the show.
This passed Friday, tickets went on sale at BU's George Sherman Student Union. By 10 a.m., when tickets went on sale, it was reported that there were already 800+ students in line. All 1,500 tickets were sold out within two and a half hours--that's faster than BU vs BC hockey tickets go.
I chose to sleep through the 10am ticket sale, because I made the decision to stay awake until 4 a.m. the night before, but luckily for me a friend has extras.
