Ahh the luxuries of being a male—you have hairy faces, arms, legs, chests, butts, armpits and no one complains because you’re allowed to have shiny tresses all over your body. Well maybe not tresses, but you are hairy, and I have to admit… I don’t hate it. Every other day I sit next to a friend in class who shaves his arms. Really?? When little black dots appear, the reminder that he needs another shave, I’m slightly repulsed. The same goes for when my own beau shaved his chest for Halloween (I’m still unclear as to why). It took weeks to grow back, and it came back thicker, to his dismay, which proves that men know nothing about the hygienic procedures better left to women. I don’t want to be locked in a tender, passionate embrace and have my body scratched by unnatural stubble.
There are probably many girls who don’t share my point of view, who don’t mind rubbing up against a body that resembles a Ken doll. I’m a supporter of guys being short- haired and neat in the boxer/bathing suit region, and I understand the benefits of shaving arms/heads/legs for swimming or running. No one likes beard burn either, even though a scruffy face can be sexy if you’re the kind of guy who can pull off that smoldering, haven’t shaved in three days look. But no hair anywhere? Guys, let me know why, and girls, give me your opinion too. If we’re required to be smooth, sexy ladies, you can handle being shaggy (to an extent) sexy men. Maybe they'll cover the topic "men and their body hair" in that Men and Masculinities class PSU is offering... see Ha Mace's most recent featured post for more on that one.
