Yesterday Centre County Judge Charles Brown approved a gag order in the alleged rape case of Austin Scott. According to today's Collegian it, "prohibits Scott's attorneys, the District Attorney's office, the alleged victim, her family and Penn State Police from 'speaking with any individual known to or identifying themselves as a member of the press.'" Well, good thing they did that now, it's not like anything came out that might change public perception. Oh, wait ...
The gag order seems to stem from the recent comments from Scott's attorney in which he said the "victim's testimony was 'totally unreliable' and the worst complainant testimony he has seen in his more than 30-year career." Another factor was the recent report in the Allentown Morning Call in which Scott's attorney's brought to light a similar rape allegation made by his accuser in 2003.
Not sure what this gag order is going to accomplish now that all this info is out there. But one of the strange things is the gag order does not seem to prohibit Scott from commenting. Seems a little odd to keep everyone from talking except Scott. So, expect to be hearing from him soon.
