Today's Collegian article about Stanley Pringle's Mike Coopering charges begins with what seems like an attack on the Internet for plastering Pringle's name all over the web before he was charged. Sites like Deadspin and Perez Hilton and ahem ... us, had the story up right away on Wednesday. But, ummm, I think most of them linked to The Collegian's story, right? Pot, kettle, black. Anyway, what's interesting about the article is they quote fans of opposing Big Ten teams who say they won't comment on Pringle's charges. Liars! You're all liars, and honestly if you're telling the truth, you should be ashamed. There's tons of good material to be used.
So The Collegian spoke with Matt Lake, president of Purdue basketball's student section the Paint Crew, along with Jason Kaye of Illinois' Orange Krush. And both said they would refrain from pointing out Pringle's inevitable blindness or encouraging the student section from wearing ponchos to protect themselves from any "splash-back." Kaye says, "There will be schools that will be absolutely brutal to him. At Illinois we try to stay away from guys with criminal charges." Riiiiight.
Even the Penn State student section thinks this won't be a big deal with George Beatty, the president of Penn State basketball fan group Nittany Nation saying, "I don't really think it will hurt support ... " "By the time next season rolls around, most of it will have blown over."
Blown over? Actually, I think if there had been some "blowing" going on this would have been avoided.
