Syracuse Vs. Penn State: The Rivalry is Reborn This Saturday

Since 1922, Penn State and Syracuse have been bitter gridiron rivals, but for the past eighteen years, the two universities have not played each other – at all.

This Saturday, however, the longstanding feud will be renewed when the Syracuse Oranges – yes, SU’s mascot is a giant orange – square off against the Penn State Nittany Lions for the first time in nearly twenty years.

Kickoff starts at 3:30 p.m. EST sharp, but if you aren’t going to be in the area, don’t worry! ABC has you covered, as they will be broadcasting the historic game live.

From the SU Athletics page:

"It's obviously going to be a very exciting weekend with "The Express" premiere and Penn State coming to town," said head coach Greg Robinson during Syracuse's preseason camp. "Since January, I've been hearing from alumni and they have such a feel for Penn State and there's been many a battle. I know the feeling and I can feel it brewing. I think it's exciting and exciting for the team to be able to play games like that. Having a team come to the Dome like that is great."

While it’s nice to see Syracuse’s head coach showing Penn State some respect, kindness doesn’t win football games. Skill and determination do -- two things that the Nittany Lions have in ample quantities.

And so, don’t expect Joe Paterno, Penn State’s head coach, to show the Oranges any mercy this weekend. He may be 81 years old, but JoePa doesn’t mess around, and that’s why the nearly century-old head coach has the most victories in collegiate history.

Well that, and the fact that he's probably the oldest head coach ever.
