The Dead To Play The BJC

The Dead To Play The BJC

One of the greatest bands in music history will play the Bryce Jordan Center on October 13, 2008.

The Grateful Dead will reunite to play the State College venue in order to drum up support and raise funds for Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.

Original Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Micky Hart along with guitarist Warren Hayes and keyboard player Jeff Chimenti will play along with The Allman Brothers Band.

The Grateful Dead, whose career spans several decades, have contributed such hits as "Casy Jones", "Truckin" and "A Touch of Grey", which was their only top ten single.

The show of course will be missing Dead ring leader Jerry Garcia, who passed away in 1995.

This show is a continuation of their last show the band played for Obama in San Francisco last year.

It is assumed the venue is sold out for the concert.

I always admired that the Dead stayed out of politics...so what happened? I'm a lifelong Dead fan and McCain supporter so what should I do? Posted 10/10/2008 2:08 PMReply

US Senator Patrick Leahy from Vermont is big Deadhead. Personally, I think NOT getting involved with politics today is the bigger mistake. Plus, early on in their career the Dead were involved in lots of benefits for "political" causes, if not directly for individual candidates. Posted 10/12/2008 09:07 AMReply

No disrespect to the Allman Brothers. The Dead are a great band and have been dormant the last few years, that's why the major focus in regards to this concert is the Grateful Dead. Posted 10/12/2008 7:31 PMReply
