Along with the movies' usual characters of the damsel-in-distress, the sensitive underdog and the jock jerk is the lovable loser pushing his way into the limelight. With recent releases like Superbad and Knocked Up, the nation is crazed over the hilarity of loser antics and goof-ups. College students suddenly find themselves rooting for characters like the unforgettable McLovin and praying the industry continues to feature such hysterically awkward roles.
What's next on this summer's loser agenda? The Rocker! This tale of a washed-up 80's band has-been is sure to be the next blockbuster to be inducted into the Loser Hall of Fame. The Office's Rainn Wilson stars as 'Fish', an 80s hairmetal drummer whose dream of making the big time was taken away when his band mates voted him out. Twenty years later, a downtrodden Fish is left with nothing but his shattered dreams and memories of his old rock n' roll days until his nephew has an open spot in his high school band, ADD.
Fish takes the young rocker hopefuls for the ride of their lives in this sure-to-be knee slapper. Personally, I hope Wilson will be able to resonate elements of Dwight Schrute's oddball charm into his latest role - if he achieves that, then it should definitely be a film worth watching! The film will also star Superbad's Emma Stone as one of ADD's band members and SNL veteran Fred Armisen. The Rocker hits theaters August 1, be sure to check it out.
