A piece of our adolescence is dying this week… Total Request Live is ending. And yes I will once again make the joke: Wait that show is still on?
TRL launched the careers of Britney Spears and NSYNC and for that I will forever be grateful. And now some of the pop music stars who benefited from TRL’s teen following will come back to celebrate the show that defined what music was “cool” for us back in the day… the middle school day. Sunday will be the final episode, a two-hour special entitled “Total Finale Live.”
For that last episode, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Fall Out Boy, the Backstreet Boys and more will be there to perform and eulogize. But best of all, the original face of TRL, Mr. Carson Daly will return. You may have forgotten about him now that he’s manorexic, not dating Tara Reid, and hosting a show late, late at night, but he made TRL what it was back when he was dreamy.
But he hasn’t forgotten about TRL. Daly recently told the New York Daily News, "I still can hear that massive audience of screaming girls when I fall asleep at night."
And that, my friends, is why he wakes up from nightmares every day.
Still, I'm sure he'll look past that for now because this weekend is all about celebrating TRL. So rest your voices, you’ll have to do some requisite little girl shrieking in just a few short days.
