When Freshmen Move In, Things Get Crazy

Ben Roth // The Daily Collegian

I'm not one to bemoan the arrival of freshmen, I mean I was a freshman once so I understand. But seriously when you people move in, some crazy sh*t goes down. Since yesterday was the first day of the second summer session campus was abuzz, primarily with fresh faced students (honestly every year I'm shocked at how young you people look) studying campus maps to find where their English 15 class is. Oh, and their parents driving the wrong way down College Ave.

I was here for classes during the first summer session and I'm not going to lie, in terms of getting things done during the daytime it was great. No line at Irvings, plenty of computers to choose from in the computer lab and you could actually sit on the blue loop. But from the look of things yesterday that's come to an end, although it's not all bad, it means night-life is going to get more interesting. Take last night for example.

If you happened to be out last night around 8:30 and were on College Ave between Atherton and Allen you might have seen something a little out of the ordinary. A huge SUV which I can only assume was being driven by the parent of an incoming freshman was rolling down College Ave in the wrong direction. It's one of those things you see and at first you don't think anything's wrong with it. It seems out of place but you can't put a finger on it and then you say "HEY! THIS IS A ONE-WAY STREET STUPID!!"

So do your part to help a freshman get situated up here this week and next. Tell them Willard is right next to the Pollock library.

Wow, Ben! I am glad to hear that you were once a freshman yourself. I guess you just knew instinctively where everything was and where to park etc. on that first day of move-in. Posted 08/18/2008 12:00 PMReply
