Worst. Football Season. Evar!!1!

Worst. Football Season. Evar!!1!

Aren't you sick of these stories involving the football team and the law? It seems like in one season we went from the poster school for student athletes to ... well, Miami. Here's hoping 2008 will be better. Only 254 days 'til Coastal Carolina! Yippee.

If you missed it, the Centre County D.A. office refiled charges against Chris Baker and Navorro Bowman, who were allegedly involved with the fight that happened in the HUB on Oct. 7.  Although the two were charged with aggravated assault (which is a felony), Centre County District Judge Carmine Prestia dismissed the charges in their Dec. 5 preliminary hearing, saying: "I'm not sure if the police department didn't rush charges on this ... I don't know why -- maybe because they're football players."  So, the D.A. is saying the judge committed an "error in law" and is again charging the two with the felony.

In other Penn State Football vs. The Law news, John Karoly, the attorney for suspended running back Austin Scott, is asking that the rape and assault charges against his client be dismissed. Initially this case looked like it was going to be a smear campaign against both parties, but since the judge put a gag order in place, we haven't heard a peep out of either side.  So, more than anything, this looks like a way for Karoly to get around the gag order and profess his client's innocence.

And we're not done, because cornerback Willie Harriot, who you might remember from the underage drinking citation he received at the beginning of the semester, is having his preliminary hearing for a Nov. 11 DUI charge postponed to Jan. 16. Presumably to allow him to celebrate New Years?

One more game and it's all over. Hey, at least none of the players got caught cheating on their Internet tests. For shame Bobby Bowden.
