WSU Tries to Take on Gangs with Red Fridays, the Spiritual Equivalent of Black Tuesday

Starting next week, it’s gonna be a real party at Washington State University every Friday. WSU Prez Elson S. Floyd has announced that every Friday will be “Crimson Fridays,” and no, he’s not referring to overly frequent menstruating, but to uberfun. The fun will be begotten by wearing the school colors, red and gray, every Friday. Oh la la!

An inspirational statement released by the school says:

Washington State University will celebrate “College Colors Day” Aug. 29 and “Crimson Fridays” every Friday during the academic year. Alumni, students and university employees can show their school spirit by dressing in the crimson and gray colors…

WSU President Elson S. Floyd signed a presidential decree Aug. 12 in which he proclaims every Friday during the academic year Crimson Spirit Day. He encourages all faculty, staff, alumni, students and supporters of WSU to wear apparel bearing the colors or insignias of the university.

In his decree, Floyd said that wearing WSU’s colors and insignias encourages solidarity among its diverse constituencies and strengthens the spirit of cooperation within the community.

You really can’t beat Fridays at WSU. With the school colors, the spirit of cooperation within the community, and the solidarity amongst diverse constituencies, Fridays should be like Christmas, the Superbowl, and a frat party all rolled into one. Let's just hope red and gray aren't the colors of a rival gang. I don't know how WSU would fare against The Bloods.
