The Nanny Diaries Takes Baby Steps

The Nanny Diaries Takes Baby Steps
To quote the movie's IMDB page, "This plot synopsis is empty. Add a synopsis."

September is a little early for post-college malaise, but the recently-released Nanny Diaries has it in bucketloads.

The film features a Chuck Taylor-wearing Scarlett Johansson... er, Annie... taking the bold step of flunking an i-banking job interview. Left without any options--say, going to another interview--she takes a position as the nanny for a posh Upper East Side family. Oh, let the class war fun begin.

The original book was actually quite good but, unfortunately, the film falls flat in a number of ways, such as surprisingly cheap "special effects." To be honest, it doesn't do the whole "flying with an umbrella" thing much better than Mary Poppins.

A current Hollywood formula also says that beautiful starlettes acting awkward and klutzy are beautiful startlettes we can related to. (Hellooo, Good Luck Chuck!) Nah. Actually, they end up being just as annoying as your own most awkward and klutzy friend.

Still, the film is worth a watch if you're an early childhood ed major or maybe a future East Side trophy wife. But definitely give it a pass you've got nerves about your i-banking interview.
