Want The Most For Your Textbooks? Don't Sell Them At A Clothing Store

One small joy we get out of the end of the semester is the chance to get back some money for the textbooks we barely even opened. Sure, we payed $354.67 back in August and only get $92 back, but it's still great to get that $92. It's like finding a twenty in your winter coat, and it needs to get spent! But if you're looking to get as much money as you can for your used textbooks, here's a piece of advice, do not sell them to a clothing store. Stick to the actual book stores.

Got Used turned us down for a science book because they said they had reached their buy back limit on it. But, the guy at the register suggested we try somewhere else since the book was roughly $100 when new. On our way down to the Student Book Store, we were approached by a guy standing outside Old State Clothing Co. (the store that used to roar like a lion when you opened the door) who told us they were buying back books, and pleaded "give us a shot." And so we did. But when we were offered $16 for the book, we figured we'd take "a shot" at SBS instead.

And it's a good thing we did because at SBS they gave us $42! So, what made the book worth $26 more down the street? We have no clue, but we can imagine it has something to do with the fact that one is a clothing store and the other is a book store.

This is only one example, and perhaps they offered competitive prices for other books. But in our opinion, the lesson to be taken from this is, sell your books at a book store ... or ebay.
