Another Saturday game with a 12:00pm kickoff for Purdue Football this weekend, but with a little more on the line this week--- it’s Homecoming! The alums have come back to support their school and football team, but it still wasn’t quite enough to earn Purdue’s first conference win of the season against ranked Minnesota.
Arriving at the Ross-Ade Stadium over 30 minutes early was a first for me, but the loyal alumni’s were already packing in and ready to see their football team compete. It was amazing watching the alums try to pep up the rest of us. Maybe they hadn’t been watching the team this season? Hearing the entire stadium cheer with the student section was neat too; usually it’s the students cheering, booing, and shouting at the referees but this week we had most of Ross-Ade helping us out!
Despite the unusually excited stadium Saturday, yes, the Boilermakers did come up short against Minnesota. Going into the second half only trailing 10-6, we were all hoping there may be a chance at pulling off a much needed win. Late into the fourth quarter, the Golden Gophers were able to pull away in many unanswered points, ending Purdue’s 2008 Homecoming game with a 17-6 loss, and 0-4 in the Big Ten.
I can speak for many of my fellow classmates in that we are getting frustrated with our team this year. Thankfully Purdue basketball opens the season Friday with a 9:00pm tip-off against Florida Southern. Boiler up!
