ROTC Cadets Honor POW/MIA With Sign, Rifle, and Cage

ROTC Cadets Honor POW/MIA With Sign, Rifle, and Cage
"I am really confused, and why won't you answer my question?"

Students walking through the Memorial Mall today probably took notice of a ROTC cadet standing motionless with him rifle, along with a "wooden cage" lying behind him. Upon closer examination, another student is actually sitting inside the cage.

Neither individual was allowed to speak. A student who was aware of the situation told OTR that the display is in honor of prisoners of war and those missing in action (POW/MIA).

"They're out here for 24 hours, with cadets taking shifts every hour," said the student. "The cadet standing is suppose to represent the guard, and the one inside the cage is the prisoner."

Why today? Because tomorrow is National POW/MIA Recognition Day, when more ROTC honoring will ensue with two-mile run and push-ups.

Surely there are better ways to recognize POW/MIA than a workout, right?

What did you do to honor POW/MIA on that day?

Hey, I know. Why not drink lots of beer and forgot about the purpose of the day like we do Memorial Day. That's so much more respectful than what these fine citizens are doing.

Kudos to you, Purdue ROTC, for going against pop culture and remembering that "Freedom isn't free."

Some gave all. Some are still giving. Some gave nothing.
What are you giving for your country?
