Final Thoughts: Despite what many people thought about the first movie, I actually liked it. I thought it was funny and full of the action it had promised. Therefore, I was looking forward to the release of its sequel. To my delight, it exceeded my expectations.
Since Hellboy (brilliantly played by Ron Perlman) is not your typical superhero, he is more multi-faceted than some of his contemporaries. He’s likeable because he has his flaws but doesn’t attempt to hide or change them. The fact that he is who he is makes him human and not the monster he’s being portrayed as.
This characterization is used to his advantage. There is no shortage of ass-kicking, cigar-chomping, kitten-loving, laughter-inducing fun. The movie just explodes with great characters and an exciting plot.
If you’re looking for a good time at the movies this weekend, this is a must-see. It certainly looks more entertaining than that Brendan Fraser flick.
