In mid-May, I reported that the ASU sports department was axing three teams due to lack of funding -- wrestling, men's swimming and men's tennis teams. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off and had less than kind words for Lisa Love, the Vice President of University Athletics.
As it turns out, however, Lisa Love isn't the complete ice queen that I thought. She actually ended up giving each team a chance to raise the funds necessary to keep them active, and the wrestling team succeeded so they’ve been reinstated indefinitely!
Now, I’m not the type to selfishly take credit for things, but I think my angry tirade raised some awareness about the wrestling department’s importance and got people to rally around a good cause. Therefore, I only have one thing to say…
You’re welcome.
Congrats to the wrestling team! I wish the other teams the best of luck, as they are still attempting to raise their funds.
But, like I said before, they’re men’s swimming and men’s tennis. Who cares?
I kid, I kid.
