Girls weren’t allowed at this year’s Memorial Day celebrations according to American voters. In a recent Quinnipiac poll on May 23, Americans voted that they would much rather enjoy a Memorial Day picnic with Barrack Obama and John McCain than Hillary Clinton. Obama came in first on the list with a whopping 35%, followed closely by McCain with 33%. Coming in last, Clinton only received 20% of these voters, with a majority of these voters being women.
Obama said himself that personality is what sets him apart from the other candidates and Quinnipiac polls found that “likeability” is an important trait in a candidate. Obama attributes his likeability to his worldliness and the extensive traveling he has done throughout his life. In an article in the Concord Monitor, Obama was quoted as saying, “I can go to a country like Indonesia, where I spent four years as a kid, or Kenya, where I still have a grandmother who lives in a tiny village with no running water and no electricity, and deliver a message that's tough but compassionate.”
As Obama gains the trust of minorities, McCain is showing Americans his softer side. According to CNN, McCain started off one discussion as saying, "I have lived a blessed life, and the first of my blessings was the family I was born into." After a very successful Biography Tour, McCain showcased his devotion to his country by telling stories about his POW days in Vietnam and spoke about the importance of family in his life.
Amidst all the efforts and strides Clinton has made to show that she can be “one of the guys,” the guys would still much rather throw back a couple of beers with their own kind.
Whether you like her or not, the reality is that Clinton is quickly losing momentum. Maybe that explains the rumors of Clinton considering the position Obama's running mate rather than being his opponent. With these results, that position is looking better by the day!
