Energy Drinks to Blame for World Problems

Energy Drinks to Blame for World Problems

Be careful before you put a little extra pep in your step. A new study out of the University of Buffalo warns that energy drinks are linked to risky behavior among college students.

People who frequently consumed these beverages were more likely to smoke cigarettes, abuse prescription drugs, be in a physical fight, have an alcohol-related problem, use marijuana, engage in unsafe sex, participate in extreme sports and take on a dangerous dare.

That’s it?

I’m thinking those who enjoy a little too much Red Bull are probably also responsible for world hunger, genocides, global warming and the entire reality TV genre.

But these behaviors aren’t the only minor troubles associated with energy drinks. The study also found that students who excessively drink the adrenaline enhancers are more likely to develop toxic jock identity (which sounds disturbingly like toxic shock syndrome, but maybe that’s just me).

Toxic jock identity is apparently characterized by hyper-masculinity and unsafe actions. Somehow, though, I don’t think jocks need energy drinks to act like beefed-up bozos.
