After the not-so-shocking report that Amy Winehouse has been recently admitted to a hospital once again, I’m left to wonder – is she really in such bad shape or is the media to blame for trying to inflate the situation?

Amy Winehouse begun to top US music charts and has continued to gain momentum in the US with hits like the ironically titled, “Rehab” and “Wake Up Alone.” Winehouse has taken home a whopping five Grammys in the past year and has traveled the world showcasing her talent from Paris Fashion Week to the Moscow Art Center. At 24, Winehouse has an estimated 10 million euro fortune and has accomplished more than some artists could ever dream of and yet she is constantly being criticized.

According to her website, Winehouse is scheduled to perform at Heineken’s annual Dublin-based Oxegen Festival but with her recent hospitalization, there’s talk of her being a no-show at the festival. Winehouse has been reported of having severe drug addictions, her husband is currently incarcerated for assault and perverting the court justice and every day the tabloids fill their pages with the star's latest mishaps.

Some of the world's greatest artists and musicians have suffered the troubling effects of drug and alcohol addiction which has ultimately served as a creative outlet, rather than a hinderance. Jackson Pollock battled alcoholism his entire life but his struggle with his life-ending vice served as the inspiration of some of his best work.

As admirers of her work, we should all give Winehouse a break. Obviously her addictions have aided her in creating wildly infectious music (given the success of "Rehab"), so please let the poor girl breathe - she's not doing so badly for herself.

Agree with you 100%. She is legend, but as with all legends, there is a flip side. Some people just want to beat her up with the flip side. Posted 06/18/2008 09:44 AMReply

Finally someone with real talent shows up - and instead of appreciating the fact that Amy Winehouse may very well be one of the great artists of our time, she´s constantly being spat on. I just wonder why? I mean it´s not like nobody else around us has problems with drinking or depressions etc. No, I just don´t get it. Could it all be envy? I just hope she gets some help with dealing with the press and all the critics. She´s a true talent, and not to forget, a human being. Posted 06/18/2008 10:11 AMReply

They are all just fascinated, but do need to realize that if a person did all the drugs and alcohol they say Amy has been amped up on she would probably already be dead. Me, I can't wait for her to release more material! The rest, is her business, and I do hope she gets her Blake back, eventually... Posted 06/18/2008 12:24 PMReply

HAVE YOU SEEN ANY PICTURES OF HER LATELY??? SHE LOOKS CLOSE TO DEATH. HAVE YOU SEEN HER PERFORM LATELY? SHE CAN'T. I FEEL SORRY FOR HER. SHE COULD AVOID THE PAPS IF SHE WANTED TO. HER CAREER HAS BEEN DESTROYED. WHO WOULD BUY TICKETS TO SEE HER? WHO WOULD ADVANCE HER TO PRODUCE MUSIC IN HER CURRENT STATE? THE DRUGS HAVE NOT HELPED HER. SHE IS TALENTED BUT DESTROYING HERSELF. I completely agree. Lots of artists throughout history have used drugs and alcohol to boost their creativity. I think the same goes for Amy. Her problem, though, is that she's taken it too far. She's gone from getting inspiration from her drug use to letting it make her completely incapable of producing or performing and music. I think people should leave her alone, definitely. But I hope for her sake, and for the sake of the future of music, that she tones it down a bit so that she can continue to make amazing music. Posted 06/19/2008 4:02 PMReply

I think Amy deserves a break. I watched her glastonbury performance on the internet there and i thought it was great despite the many negative comments it recieved. what i love is the raw talent that shines through even when she seems to be under the influence. Even when she is on stage and has lost some control, its the mess and choas of her performance that adds appeal. Posted 06/29/2008 5:05 PMReply
