Writers and artists struggle their entire lives to become noticed and most never receive any recognition until after they’re dead and long gone. Andrew Bovasso, New Jersey native and Senior at MICA published his first book last December.

With his Nikon hanging around his neck since high school, Bovasso knew he was meant to take the art world by storm. Now a photography major, he is proud to add Heart of This Home, a photo essay-style book, to his repertoire. Bovasso’s book tells the story of the old Jersey City home he grew up in. The story is told mostly through barely-lit photographs meant to depict the deterioration of a home and the trials and tribulations of a family.

At his ripe 21 years, Bovasso has delved into the art world and has no intention of ever looking back. He decided early on that he would commit himself entirely to photography and has long since been documenting his life's events through his photographs.

The photos within his publication alone sent chills down my spine - his series of self portraits were the most eerie and electrifying. Photographed in various rooms of his Jersey City home, Bovasso appears to be disappearing and fading into his surroundings, almost like ghosts become part of the homes they haunt.

Bovasso is set to graduate in 2009 and who knows where the world will take him, only big things are to be expected of this Alfred Stieglitz-to-be.
