Getting an award is always flattering, satisfying and a cause for celebration. During Sunday’s 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, successful country group Rascal Flatts were recognized for their amazing vocals (they won the award for Top Vocal Group for the sixth consecutive year) and then some. They were also presented with the Humanitarian Award by the Academy of Country Music and Home Depot during the awards show. The honor was a token of appreciation of the band’s support of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University.

The band has performed for the patients and staff members in the past but it was their pledge to raise $3 million for the hospital that marked their altruism. Their contribution will help further the hospital’s niche in teaching and research, and up their rank as being one of the nation’s ten best.

Rascal Flatts is probably best known for their chart-topping single, “What Hurts the Most,” recently covered by Cascada. With their Humanitarian Award and contribution to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital however, the band will certainly stick around long after the music stops.
