The 2008 Presidential Race will go down in history as being one of the most influential races of all time. The elected candidate will no doubt rock US History with the presence of either a woman, an African-American or a senior citizen in office. College campuses all over the country are buzzing with talk about which candidate is best suited for the job. The candidates have quickly become a hot topic and are continuing to generate attention on college campuses.
The Democrats held one of their earlier debates at the Dartmouth campus back in September of 2007. The eight Democratic hopefuls gathered to answer questions and a chance to strut their political stuff in front of hundreds of people while MSNBC broadcasted the debates. Not only are college students making an appearance at these events but a rush of students are registering to vote. Close to 600 Duke students signed up to vote and out of these 585 students, 545 will be casting their ballots as either Democrats or unaffiliated.
College students have always been known to be liberal and a little leftist but this year's race is attaching some truth to the stereotype with the amount of support for Democratic candidates especially for Barack Obama. Boston University student, Brendan Ryan wanted to take part in the elections and decided to run for the position of one of Obama's delegates. Although he gathered more than 7,000 votes in his precinct, this was only enough to land him 14 out of 16 candidates which wasn't enough to get him the job.
With so many students rooting for the Democrats, it will be interesting to see if all their hard work will pay off come election time.
