Sarah Lawrence Starts Crusade to Dorm “Green”

Schools seem to be into the recent trend of caring about the environment a.k.a “going green”. Many colleges claim to be environmentally conscious, but they take the lazy route by leaving the recycling efforts up to the students. Sarah Lawrence College, however, is taking the green movement to a whole other level.

This fall, SLC will be transforming some of its residence halls for eco-conscious students. The dorm’s electricity will be minimized by drying laundry on a clothesline, reducing cooking, and students will share appliances.

Don’t be fooled, colleges have their own interest at heart, as well as the ecosystem. The U.S. Green Building Council awards certain colleges with a certificate for their efforts. This is severe bragging rights.

Sorry kids but going green means increasing tuition. Rollins College spent about $8.5 million renovating the 200-bed Ward Hall, said the Vice President and Treasurer of the College.

So you decide: Is worth it to raise college expenses now to save money later?
