A scholarship has been created to honor Heath Ledger. The late actor was known not only for his on-screen roles, but for his role as the ambassador of Australians in Film, an organization that helps aspiring actors achieve their dreams. Now AiF will continue those efforts with the Health Ledger Scholarship Fund.

A statement from Ledger’s father said that Heath Ledger would be proud to be attached to this scholarship. Director Gregor Jordan said that Michelle Williams, the mother of Heath Ledger’s child, would also be proud.

“The first recipient will be announced next year,” said Susie Dobson, the President of AiF.

Meanwhile, People magazine reports the Ledger family will travel from Perth, Australia, to attend the premiere of "The Dark Knight" in Manhattan, opening next month.
