Your summer job stinks, your internship makes your brain numb, and you just can't wait for the weekend to start, sounds like we need to give you some directions. After painstaking hours sifting through countless events, I've found some prime picks for the tired, poor, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free (yes, I am quoting Emma Lazarus. If you don't know the reference -- God save you!). I am a firm believer in getting started on "Thirsty Thursday," so let's get cracking!
In Chi-town this Thursday, there's no shortage of lesbian DJs romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan. Well, actually there is one DJ romantically linked to LiLo, and that's Samantha Ronson. She will be spinning at the uber-chic Crimson Lounge at the Hotel Sax. No cover at the door, and of course, drinks will be available.
They're trying to keep the event hush-hush, but I've got a knack for finding free, interesting events.
Location: Crimson Lounge at the Hotel Sax
333 N. Dearborn St.
Planning on lushing it up in Boston on Thursday?Creep on over to Paradise Rock Club to see the luscious indie goodness that is The Hold Steady. The band will be playing with Aberdeen City as part of the Miller Lite Music Series.
Location: Paradise Rock Club
967 Commonwealth Ave.
This week "Frisky Friday" is awesome in a couple of cities:
For movie openings, we actually have a nice crop to choose from. Angelina Jolie fans and the James McAvoy obsessed have been salivating for the opening of Wanted. The film promises gratuitous semi-nude scenes with Angelina and the obligatory action film knock em' down and blow em' up appeal. On the Disney-Pixar front, Wall-E a robot, with the determination of "The Little Engine That Could," has the key to the Earth's future. A Beastie Boy, Adam "MCA" Yauch, tries his hand at a film career with the debut of the well-received Gunnin' for That #1 Spot.
Location: Theaters Everywhere
In San Diego, Fergie will have more than her fair share of the stage on Friday at her Del Mar Fairgrounds concert. Cross your fingers, you may witness another public urination fiasco, or a relapse into meth addiction...if you're lucky.
Location: Del Mar Fairgrounds
2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd
Take the party from the beach to the Fried Chicken & Porn event in Miami at the Upper East Side Garden. The event costs 5 bucks and it promises free Dutch beer, Grolsch, and the music stylings of Faux Real.
Location: Upper East Side Garden
7244 Biscayne Boulevard
The Big Apple has a free concert with the Cold War Kids at the Prospect Park Band Shell at 7pm this Friday. Hear favorites like "Hang Me Up To Dry" and "Hospital Beds." I vote yes and yes!!
Location: Prospect Park
It's pretty wacky on "Sexy Sunday:"
On both coasts, an event so huge it's represented by a myriad of colors (actually, just the rainbow). Pride Weekend, Gay Pride that is. Sunday, June 29th, in San Francisco and New York, the streets will be lined with **** hags, **** tykes, and boisterous supporters of the LGBT community. At the San Francisco Pride event, guests like: Cyndi Lauper, Margaret Cho, Crystal Waters, and Kat De Luna are set to make appearances at the Civic Center Main Stage. At the New York Pride, there are crazy parties slated for the evening at Pier 54, on West 13th Street. The parties are pricey, but sure to be worth the extra cash.
Location: Gay Pride Parade
From 5th Avenue & 52nd St. to Christopher St. & Greenwich St.
Time: 12:00pm
Along Market Street
Time: 10:00 am
Side Note: If you're a Hold Steady stalker, you can see then again, for free, at the McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn, NY.
