Will Wright's "Spore" Angers Atheists, Because What Doesn't?

Steven Davis over at the Daily Nebraskan wrote a rather interesting article today about how pissed off athiests are getting about the new game Spore from Sim City creator Will Wright. In the game players can develop their own species, which gradually evolves over time and is able to create it's own society.

Davis points out that you would think that Christians would be upset that the game appears to support and be essentially at the core about evolution, but no, it's actually the other side that's angered. Apparently once you create your own spore society, you can convert neighboring tribes to your own spore religion by sending them propaganda. Also available during gameplay is the "Faith Heal" power which fixes your vehicles and buildings and "Black Rain" which sends diseased creatures hurling towards your enemies.

Athiests protesting that religion is in Spore is a bit like Christians protesting that there's no mention of God in Sonic the Hedgehog. It's a game, and it's fun, and raining down diseased animals on your neighbors is hilarious. Get over it.
